The U.S. Navy officially concluded a massive, multi-day search-and-rescue mission in the northern Arabian Sea after failing to locate a missing aviator who vanished following an emergency water landing by an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter. Military officials confirmed the unfortunate resolution following relentless search efforts.
The active search effort was officially halted late on July 5 after joint task force units logged more than 102 continuous hours scouring roughly 14,000 square miles of open sea. Navigational and rescue teams deployed extensive resources during this period.
Following the mandatory 48-hour window to complete next-of-kin notifications, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command identified the missing service member as Cmdr. Gabriel Edwards. He served as the commanding officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5.
