A gunman attempted to reach President Donald Trump during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, causing immediate panic and pandemonium. The Saturday night event, widely known as the annual nerd prom, quickly transformed from a celebration of political journalism into an active security crisis.
Police reports and photographic evidence confirmed that the suspect, identified as Cole Allen, was apprehended by Secret Service agents in the hotel lobby. Allen was shirtless and pinned to the floor after charging a security checkpoint while heavily armed with a shotgun and multiple knives.
Interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll stated that the suspect appeared to be a lone actor who was likely staying at the hotel. Authorities confirmed there was no broader ongoing public threat following the swift apprehension and subsequent securing of the area.
