U.S.-Iran Escalation Intensifies as Missile Attack Is Followed by Strikes in Iraq and Iran
WASHINGTON — A new escalation between Iran and the United States unfolded in late July after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles toward U.S. forces in the Middle East, according to U.S. Central Command.
CENTCOM said the missiles were launched from Iranian territory on July 28 in what it described as an attempted surprise attack against American military positions across the region. U.S. officials said the ballistic missiles involved were intercepted, while American forces remained on heightened alert.
