Michael Marx, a 45-year-old resident of Midland, Texas, has been officially identified by federal authorities as the armed suspect who engaged in a dramatic shootout with Secret Service agents near Washington, D.C. The violent confrontation erupted abruptly close to the National Mall as a motorcade carrying prominent political figures departed from the White House.

Washington, D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed the suspect's identity following the filing of a formal criminal complaint. According to court documents, a plainclothes Secret Service agent initially spotted Marx acting suspiciously and attempting to conceal a firearm near 15th Street and Madison Drive.

Additional Secret Service personnel quickly converged on Marx as he walked along the path of the official motorcade. When agents exited their vehicles to issue verbal commands, Marx fled across the street while drawing a handgun from his waistband in front of numerous startled bystanders.
