A heavily armed assailant attempted to breach a secured perimeter at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The dramatic security breach triggered an emergency evacuation of President Donald Trump, the First Lady, and hundreds of senior officials and journalists attending the high-profile media gala.

Federal law enforcement identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. Allen engaged in a violent physical struggle with United States Secret Service personnel just outside the hotel’s main ballroom shortly after the presidential motorcade arrived at the venue.

During the fierce altercation, gunfire erupted and struck a Secret Service agent at close range. Fortunately, the wounded agent survived without life-threatening injuries due to wearing a ballistic vest and remains hospitalized in stable condition following the chaotic evening incident.
