An armed California man was arrested after attempting to breach a security checkpoint at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, injuring a Secret Service agent. The dramatic confrontation occurred just minutes after the arrival of the president and first lady at the high-profile media gala. Federal authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a Caltech graduate, video game developer, and teacher from Torrance, California. Officials confirmed that Allen was heavily armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives when he rushed the hotel lobby security perimeter.

Secret Service agents intercepted the suspect before he could advance toward the crowded main ballroom where attendees had gathered. A violent struggle ensued during the confrontation, and gunfire erupted at close range inside the busy hotel lobby. One Secret Service agent was struck during the exchange, but his ballistic vest successfully prevented any fatal injuries. The wounded officer was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel reported he was in stable condition.

Allen sustained minor injuries during the physical struggle and was quickly taken into federal law enforcement custody following the incident. Security teams ordered a rapid, full evacuation of the venue as heavily armed officers swept the entire hotel. Although organizers initially considered resuming the evening’s program, the White House Correspondents’ Association ultimately decided to cancel the event entirely.
