WASHINGTON — Efforts to resolve the escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran remain uncertain as Washington combines military operations, economic sanctions and pressure over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway has become one of the most important pressure points in
the conflict. The strait is a major route for global energy shipments, and recent fighting involving U.S. and Iranian forces has sharply reduced commercial traffic through the area.
